First Cork!
After being delayed by several non-train items, I finally got to lay the first cork for the layout. It's only 5 pieces (about 15 feet) but it's the farthest back so it was a challenge to install.
My next cork will be a continuation until I decide to move onto other things.
One diversion on the layout is the track that will be in front of the cork just laid rises from 0" to 5" at the left end of this cork. I've been trying to figure out ways to get the first 1" of elevation but I've come to the conclusion that the easiest way is to cut the plywood in a cookie-cutter fashion for about 4 to 5 feet. Unfortunately, it crosses 2 joists in the process, so I have some work to do there.
I'm hoping to continue working on the cork for the next 2 weeks before I go on a trip but I am having a tooth pulled on Monday and that may slow me down. More to come.
Just a quick follow-up. I didn't have the tooth pulled, but will happen in early June instead.
I forgot to note that I used Polyseamseal Clear Caulk Adhesive to fasten the cork. I just spread a small bead down the middle and use a putty knife to spread it. I then lined up one-half of the cork to the centerline and used push-pins to hold it in place. I then aligned the other half and did the same. Easy peasy.
